Muffy Walker’s Pickleball Tournament Rallies Rancho Santa Fe for Alzheimer’s in Powerful Personal Tribute

Muffy Walker’s Pickleball Tournament: Muffy Walker, a longtime resident of Rancho Santa Fe, organized a special pickleball tournament at the Rancho Santa Fe Tennis Club on May 13. The event raised $15,080 for the Alzheimer’s Association, combining sport and fundraising for a cause close to her heart.

Pickleball for a Personal Cause

Muffy Walker planned the tournament as part of The Longest Day campaign, which helps raise awareness and funds for the Alzheimer’s Association. The event brought together 28 players and several sponsors.

“Helping raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Association is deeply personal to me. Not only did my mother succumb to the disease, but my mother-in-law is now in hospice care with Alzheimer’s.” – (Muffy Walker)

Franklin Sports donated the pickleballs used in the tournament. Gelato provided flavored sparkling water to help keep the players cool and hydrated. G.O.A.T. Paddles donated prize packages for the winners, which included paddles, hats, and pickleballs.

Muffy Walker’s Broader Efforts

Muffy Walker has lived in Rancho Santa Fe for 30 years and recently published her first novel, Memory Weavers. The book is inspired by her experience as a psychiatric nurse and her family’s journey with Alzheimer’s disease.

She has been promoting the book at local events, including the Alzheimer’s Association Brilliance Gala and a visit with the Rancho Santa Fe Women’s Fund. Her book tour will continue throughout the summer and fall with stops in Gozzer Ranch in Idaho, New York City, and at the Broad Institute in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Spreading Awareness Through Community and Storytelling

The pickleball event not only raised money but also helped bring the community together to support Alzheimer’s care and research. Muffy Walker’s work on the court and through her book, highlights how personal stories can help drive action and support.

Her ongoing book tour and future events are expected to continue spreading awareness about the impact of Alzheimer’s on families and the importance of community support in fighting the disease.
