A new set of pickleball courts was officially opened on May 20 next to Amory High School. The Pickle Family Pickleball Courts were dedicated during a Monroe County Chamber of Commerce ribbon-cutting ceremony. E.E. Pickle Funeral Home helped support the project, making it possible for the city of Amory.
Community Support Behind the Project
The new courts are located beside the existing tennis courts at the school. The complex is named after the Pickle family, who played a major role in funding the project through E.E. Pickle Funeral Home.
“This does not come about without the commitment of the Pickle family. It’s a gracious donation and very much appreciated. I think this goes along perfect with what we’re doing at this campus with Panther Park and the ball fields. I can’t thank you guys enough for what you did for the city. It’s so gracious, and I think everybody will be proud of this and use it.” – (Mayor Corey Glenn)
Paul Petterson of E.E. Pickle Funeral Home added, “We appreciate Amory. The people here are gracious.”
Improvements and Future Plans
The courts are ADA-compliant and are still being worked on. Wind screens will soon be added to the north, east, and west sides. A gravel parking lot and landscaping are also in progress.
“This project has been a major undertaking, and it’s a beautiful complex. When we first started, we were just going to go with the courts and the outside fence but we later figured out we should put a shade up. It’s one of maybe four in the state with a cover.” – (Corey Glenn)
Glenn shared hopes that more courts can be added later to grow the space even more.
Fundraiser Event Coming Soon
To celebrate the new courts, the Amory High School volleyball team will hold a fundraiser pickleball tournament. The event will take place on June 7 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The deadline to register is May 30, and the cost is $25 per person.
Importance of the New Courts
The Pickle Family Pickleball Courts offer a new way for people in Amory to stay active and connect. With pickleball growing fast across the country, these courts can help more residents enjoy the sport close to home. The support from E.E. Pickle Funeral Home and city leaders shows strong community pride and teamwork.
