Rotary Memorial Pickleball Classic Returns to Support Local Youth and Honor Community Legacy

The Rotary Memorial Pickleball Classic will take place on May 24, 2025, at the Greencroft Club in Albemarle County, Virginia. Hosted by the Albemarle County Rotary Club, the event raises funds for youth programs, scholarships, and local nonprofit groups. Check-in starts at 8:30 a.m., and games begin at 9:00 a.m. The tournament will follow a round-robin format, and players will compete in skill-based flights. Winners will receive prizes. If the weather causes a cancellation, the tournament will be rescheduled for May 31 at 2:00 p.m.

A Tradition of Giving

The Albemarle County Rotary Club launched this annual fundraiser as a pickleball tournament in 2024. Starting in 2025, the event will be held in memory of Dr. Frank E. Taylor. He was a World War II veteran and one of the founding members of the Albemarle County Rotary Club. This event continues the club’s history of service and support to the community.

In the past, this fundraiser was known as Kids Swing. It remains the main source of support for the club’s efforts to help children and youth-focused organizations in the area.

Who Benefits and How

Proceeds from the 2025 event will support several causes. The main recipient this year is the All Blessings Flow Pediatric Program. This group helps children with disabilities and special needs in the Charlottesville area get healthcare resources.

The event also funds educational scholarships. Every year, the club awards five scholarships to students from these schools:

  • Charlottesville Albemarle Technical Education Center (CATEC)
  • Albemarle High School
  • Western Albemarle High School
  • Monticello High School
  • Piedmont Virginia Community College

School leaders choose one student from each school, based on financial need and achievement.

Continuing a Legacy of Service

This tournament honors the life and values of Dr. Frank E. Taylor while continuing to support youth and education in Albemarle County. It provides a fun way for the community to give back, enjoy a day of friendly pickleball, and help local students and families in need. With a focus on teamwork, fairness, and giving, the Rotary Memorial Pickleball Classic aims to grow each year.
