Longview Greenlights Major McWhorter Park Upgrades—Pickleball Courts Lead Exciting Revamp

Longview Pickleball Courts: The Longview Economic Development Corporation Board of Directors approved funding on Thursday to build pickleball courts and improve other facilities at McWhorter Park. The upgrades include better basketball courts, new soccer fields, playgrounds, ball fields, and trail improvements. These projects come from a city bond passed in 2018 aimed at improving the community.

Park Improvements Backed by City Bond

The upgrades at McWhorter Park are part of Longview’s type B projects, funded by a 2018 city bond. These projects are designed to improve the city’s parks and recreation spaces for residents. The new pickleball courts will add to the growing interest in the sport and provide more options for outdoor activities.

Support from the Longview Economic Development Corporation

The Longview Economic Development Corporation (LEDCO) supports the city’s park upgrades. While LEDCO’s main mission is to create and keep jobs in the area, they recognize that good parks help attract people and businesses.

“While our primary mission at LEDCO is to establish and maintain primary jobs for our surrounding community, we are also keenly aware of the impact that quality of life can have on an individual’s or a company’s decision to locate in Longview. Because of this, LEDCO is supportive of our City’s efforts to continue upgrading and improving our city parks and trails. When organizations work together for the benefit of the community, the positive effects are widespread and we couldn’t be prouder to play a small part in that legacy.” – (LEDCO CEO/President Wayne Mansfield)

Benefits for the Community

The new courts and other improvements are expected to make McWhorter Park a better place for families and athletes. With more options for sports and recreation, Longview hopes to improve the quality of life for its residents. The projects show the city’s dedication to making parks welcoming and fun for everyone.
