Washington Unveils Pickleball License Plate: Washington drivers will soon be able to show their love for pickleball with a new license plate. Starting November 1, 2025, the state will offer a pickleball-themed license plate for $40, with a $30 annual renewal fee. The new plate will support the growth of the sport in Washington.
The license plate features a serene blue forest backdrop, with two crossed paddles and a pickleball at its center. This design celebrates pickleball’s roots, as the sport was created on Bainbridge Island, Washington.
The money collected from these plates will help build and fix pickleball courts. Funds will go to the Seattle Metro Pickleball Association. The project is part of a bill that was signed into law this month by Governor Bob Ferguson. The bill, called Senate Bill 5444, was sponsored by Senator John Lovick and supported by the Seattle Metro Pickleball Association.
Washington’s Pickleball Pride
Pickleball has become a symbol of pride in the state. In March 2022, Washington named pickleball its official state sport. Since then, state leaders have looked for more ways to support and grow the game. This license plate is one more step in showing how important pickleball has become to local communities.
The Seattle Metro Pickleball Association teamed up with Senator John Lovick to push for the new plate. It will raise money to help with construction and maintenance of pickleball courts in the region.

Plate Joins Other Nature-Themed Designs
The pickleball license plate joins other special designs in Washington that also raise money for different causes. These include plates for Mount St. Helens, honey bees and pollinators, the Keep Washington Evergreen program, and Smokey Bear. Each one reflects the state’s outdoor and active lifestyle.
The new pickleball license plate fits right in with these other options. Like them, it supports something many people in the state care about—staying active and enjoying the outdoors.

Supporting the Sport’s Future
The launch of this new license plate shows how serious Washington is about keeping pickleball popular for years to come. Officials are not treating it as a short-term trend. Instead, they are using it to bring people together and improve community spaces.
With the money going to the Seattle Metro Pickleball Association, more courts can be built and kept in good shape. That means more people will have a chance to play, no matter their age or skill level.
By adding pickleball to its list of themed license plates, Washington is showing how much the game means to the state. And it’s doing so in a way that helps everyone.
