The Picklr in Albuquerque: Albuquerque will soon open its first indoor pickleball facility, called The Picklr, located near Eubank Boulevard and Interstate 40. The building, formerly a Conn’s Home Plus store, will be handed over to Premier Pickleball on Wednesday. The franchise has 40 locations and plans to add 100 more in five years.
A New Place to Play Indoors
Marty Garcia, Chief Operations Officer of Premier Pickleball, said the new facility on Albuquerque’s east side will be over 39,000 square feet. It will feature 12 indoor pickleball courts, a skinny court, and a dinking area.
“We have a wonderful club that’s opening soon on the east side. It is a over 39,000 square foot club on the indoor courts.” – (Marty Garcia)
“Our whole goal is to promote health, promote competition, promote sports. And pickleball is just a wonderful way to do that.” – (Marty Garcia)
Why Indoor Courts Matter
Mr. Garcia explained that Albuquerque’s weather can be very hot in summer and very cold in winter.
“So, for some people, it’s not feasible to get out and play in that type of weather.” – (Marty Garcia)
The indoor courts will provide a climate-controlled space where players can enjoy pickleball all year long.
Community Excited About the New Facility
Local players shared their thoughts about the new club. Reija Lynch, who plays at Ken’s Pickleball Courts, said,
“It’ll be nice to have an indoor air-conditioned facility to come out and play. So, we’re not playing super late. We can kind of play whenever.” – (Reija Lynch)
Another player, Josh Simon, said,
“I think pickleball is very easy to get into. And so, it’s exciting to see that we’re picking it up as a state.” – (Josh Simon)
Growth and Future Plans
Mr. Garcia also revealed plans for another indoor facility on Albuquerque’s west side. Santa Fe and Las Cruces are next on the list for Premier Pickleball’s expansion. He said the new indoor courts will support high-level play, including events by the Professional Pickleball Association and Major League Pickleball. “The pickleball community is incredibly enthusiastic,” he added.
News in Brief: The Picklr in Albuquerque
Albuquerque will open The Picklr, its first indoor pickleball center, offering 12 courts and climate control. The facility meets the city’s need for year-round play due to hot summers and cold winters. Premier Pickleball plans another indoor site in Albuquerque and expansions in Santa Fe and Las Cruces.
