Lee County’s Pickleball Court Renovation: Lee County plans to spend $1.7 million to renovate Wheeler Road Community Park’s tennis and pickleball courts. The Lee County Commissioners will consider approving a contract with Stultz, Inc. for the project during their meeting at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 3.
Renovation Details and Budget
The contract amendment to renovate the park’s courts is listed as Item Number 19 on the commissioners’ consent agenda. The project will cost $1,708,472.83 and includes replacing the two existing tennis courts, as well as upgrading fencing, lighting, and parking areas.
The existing tennis courts were built in 2006 and are nearing the end of their usable life, according to the meeting agenda.

The renovation also plans to add three new pickleball courts. In addition, the project will build a larger restroom facility with utilities, add more fencing and lighting, install new shade structures, and expand parking to meet ADA requirements.
The total construction is expected to take about one year from start to finish. Funding for the project comes from Lee County’s Community Park Impact Fees, which are set aside specifically for improving community parks.
Changes After Community Feedback
Initially, in January 2024, the county planned to replace one of the two tennis courts with pickleball courts. However, after residents raised concerns, the county revised the plan.
The new design keeps both tennis courts intact and finds a separate area for the pickleball courts. This updated plan was made public in August 2024.
This project shows the county’s commitment to improving recreational spaces while responding to community feedback. Once completed, the park will offer modern courts for tennis and pickleball, better facilities, and improved access for all visitors.
