St. Petersburg Rallies to Build More Pickleball Courts as Player Demand Surges

St. Petersburg’s Pickleball Court Expansion: St. Petersburg, Florida, plans to build more pickleball courts to meet rising demand. The city is responding to player complaints about long waits and crowded courts. A $1.1 million upgrade is set for Woodlawn Park, just one mile from popular Crescent Lake Park.

Crescent Lake Park has become a favorite spot for competitive pickleball. But the number of players is growing faster than the number of courts. Many players are now waiting up to an hour just to get game time.

Crescent Lake Park Draws Top Players

Crescent Lake Park is well-known among local pickleball players. Even though the courts aren’t perfect, players keep coming for the strong competition. “These are the courts that people come out to play the best of the best,” said Tim Marshick, a regular at the park. Players love the energy and challenge found at Crescent Lake Park.

Plans for New Courts at Woodlawn Park

To help solve the problem, St. Petersburg will invest in Woodlawn Park. The city plans to build six new pickleball courts, along with two tennis courts and new basketball courts.

The upgrade aims to ease pressure on Crescent Lake Park and improve access for all players. “I think that’s brilliant. It’s right in the center of the town,” said Tim Marshick, sharing his support for the project.

A Growing Sports Community

The city hopes that adding new courts will not only shorten wait times but also allow them to host pickleball events in the future. The sport continues to grow fast, and local officials want to make sure the city keeps up.

With these improvements, St. Petersburg is showing its support for the sport and its players. The upgrades are expected to help the city stay a favorite spot for pickleball in Florida.
