Casper’s Pickleball Complex: In 2024, pickleball continued its rapid rise in popularity across the United States, with about 19.8 million people playing the sport, including many in Wyoming. In Casper, the Pickleball and Sports Complex is helping people of all ages and abilities take part in this growing game. Sam Dia, the Chief Executive Officer of the complex, says that pickleball is a sport that welcomes everyone.
“I think everyone can play this game because it’s multigenerational. The community can be involved by practicing at our facility.” – (Sam Dia)
The facility also plans to offer youth programs for kids aged 7 to 15. This is part of their effort to include all age groups and help younger players develop skills and confidence.
A Place for Everyone
Casper resident Tim Force enjoys playing pickleball at the complex as a wheelchair athlete. He’s proud to show that mobility differences don’t stop anyone from enjoying the game.
“They do some different rules for wheelchair players, they’ll give you two bounces. I can have my front wheels in the kitchen just not my back wheels, and I don’t want anyone to take it easy on anyone that plays in the wheelchair.” – (Tim Force)
Force said he began playing because he wanted to do something fun with his wife. The sport gave him a sense of equality and freedom on the court.
“When I played in the wheelchair I felt equal, I felt free, I felt like I could not be a problem but more a competitor.” – (Tim Force)
No Barriers to Participation
Tim Force shared that people don’t need a disability to play in a wheelchair. This helps those with joint pain or back issues who still want to stay active and be part of the game.
The sense of welcome and community is strong. Sam Dia and Tim Force agree that the sport offers more than just physical activity — it offers fun and friendship. Dia shared advice for new players: “Practice, practice, practice… you have to do the drills to get the skills.”
“The good thing about pickleball is it always offers another challenge and it’s a good group of people.” – (Tim Force)
Open to All
The Pickleball and Sports Complex offers different types of memberships for those who want to compete, learn, or just play for fun. Registration can be done online for lessons, games, or open play with friends and family.
