Bob Venne Memorial Park’s Pickleball Courts: The Town and Village of Champlain have officially begun work on new pickleball courts at Bob Venne Memorial Park. Local leaders and community partners gathered for a groundbreaking ceremony at the site on Route 276, across from Northeastern Clinton Central School, to mark the start of the project on land owned by the town.
The pickleball courts are part of the park’s Phase One development, which also includes an outdoor fitness center. Funding support came from the CVPH Foundation and Hudson Headwaters Health Network. The new facilities aim to boost community health and encourage active living.
Community Leaders Celebrate Start of Project
Champlain Town Supervisor Thomas Trombley led the event and shared his excitement.
“This is a ceremony that’s dear to our hearts. It’s been two-and-a-half years in coming. We’ve been working on this project feverishly, trust me, collecting funding and now we’re ready to break ground.” – (Thomas Trombley)
Town Councilman Jason Borrie highlighted how long the project had been in the works.
“This is a movement in the best direction. It’s been such an honor and a privilege to be able to see all of this work become reality.” – (Jason Borrie)
He also noted how meaningful it is to have the courts named as part of a park honoring Bob Venne.
Support from the Village and Healthcare Partners
Village of Champlain Mayor Janet McFetridge, along with Councilwomen Kim Trombley and Nicci Molinski, joined the celebration. Mayor McFetridge thanked everyone involved.
“It’s just going to be such an asset to the community, and we can’t wait to come here for exercise, to bring our families and welcome visitors.” – (Janet McFetridge)
Karen Reid, director of annual giving at the CVPH Foundation, and Melissa Gooley, regional practice leader from Hudson Headwaters Health Network, also attended. Both groups helped fund the project.
“Promoting a healthy lifestyle and preventive medicine go hand-in-hand. We are happy to be a partner in this project.” – (Melissa Gooley)
Karen Reid added that the CVPH Foundation is “excited to help bring new opportunities for health and wellness to this area.”
What Comes Next
Supervisor Thomas Trombley said the new pickleball courts should be ready in a few months. The town hopes the facility will help keep young families in Champlain and attract new ones. In Phase Two, a basketball court will be added.
“Stay tuned, you’re going to see this spring up from the ground.” – (Thomas Trombley)
