Pickleball Complex in Hermiston: A new pickleball complex costing $1.2 million is set to open in Hermiston, Oregon, on June 14, 2025. City officials and representatives from Good Shepherd Health Care System will celebrate the grand opening at 11 a.m. at Theater Sports Park, located at 1800 NW Sixth Street. This new facility will provide more places to play pickleball south of the Tri-Cities area, where courts are often hard to find.
Features and Facilities
The Good Shepherd Pickleball Complex includes 10 fenced courts with LED lighting and seating for spectators. It also has a championship court designed for tournaments.
Notably, it will feature the only fully accessible wheelchair courts in the Pacific Northwest, making the sport available to players with disabilities. The $1.2 million project was built using donations and volunteer labor from the community. Brandon Artz, Hermiston Parks & Recreation director, said,
“This project is a fantastic example of what can happen when public and private partners come together for the good of the community. We are thrilled to offer this world-class amenity to Hermiston residents and expand the options of competition-quality sports facilities.” – (Brandon Artz)
Access and Impact
The courts will be open every day from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. for public play. This new complex will help reduce the shortage of pickleball courts in the area and offer a high-quality place for players of all skill levels.
Its accessible design encourages more people, including wheelchair users, to enjoy pickleball. The facility is expected to boost local interest in the sport and provide a welcoming place for casual and competitive players.
