Summer Slam Pickleball Tournament Draws Record Crowds: The Calvert City Summer Slam Pickleball Tournament filled the courts at Doctors’ Park in Calvert City, Kentucky, this past weekend. Held from Friday through Sunday, the event used all four courts and featured players from multiple divisions. The tournament continues to grow as the sport gains popularity across the country.
Players competed in men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles. Competition levels ranged from 2.5 to 4.5, giving players of all skills a chance to play. The “Summer Slam” is promoted as one of Kentucky’s top local pickleball events and always fills up fast.
Tournament Growth and Facilities
The City of Calvert is planning to build four more courts next to the current ones by next summer. This year, new restrooms were added just in time for the tournament. These updates aim to keep pace with the growing number of players and spectators.
Bleachers were placed around the fences for better viewing, and vendor canopies lined the courts. The setup created a welcoming and enjoyable space for fans and players.
Southern Pickleball Sanctioning and Charity Work
The tournament is officially sanctioned by the Southern Pickleball Association. Medal winners from this event now qualify to compete in the 2025 Southern Pickleball Championships.
Hosted by local Calvert City pickleball players, Calvert City, and the Calvert Area Development Association, the tournament also serves as a fundraiser. This year, organizers donated $3,000 to Marshall County Youth Services from funds raised during last year’s event.
A Player-Friendly Experience
The “Summer Slam” is known for its welcoming atmosphere. Local supporters provide water and snacks, and all participants receive a personalized t-shirt and other small gifts to remember the event.
