10M Dollar Pickleball Complex Could Transform Caddo Parish—Will Commissioners Serve Up Approval This Week?

Caddo Parish Pickleball Complex Proposal: A $10 million pickleball complex may soon be built in Caddo Parish, Louisiana. The Caddo Commission is reviewing an ordinance that would provide the funds for this major project through revenue bonds. A final decision could be made during the regular meeting on Thursday.

The new pickleball facility would feature 19 full-size pickleball courts located behind the Lash Family YMCA on Ellerbe Road. Officials say it could bring tourism, boost local businesses, and create new jobs.

Plans and Presentations

Patrick Wesley, Director of the Caddo Parish Parks and Recreation Department, explained the project at a work session on Monday. He said that pickleball has become extremely popular in the area.

He noted that thousands of residents have asked for a place to play. Wesley also shared examples of other cities investing in large pickleball centers. He highlighted a $50 million complex in Springdale, Arkansas, a $23.8 million project in West Monroe, and a $10 million plan in Youngsville.

Support and Potential Benefits

Stacy Brown from Visit Shreveport-Bossier and the Shreveport-Bossier Sports Commission also spoke in support of the project.

“By having a facility that is large enough to host the bigger tournaments, a tournament with as many as 1,000 people can generate over $1 million, just that one tournament, in our community. It brings people in. They eat in the restaurants. They stay in the hotels. They stop by the gas stations… It’s a great opportunity to build all aspects of our community.” – (Stacy Brown)

Caddo Parish Administrator Erica Bryant said the cost would be covered by future revenue from the park.

“We believe that the revenues generated from this facility will not only cover the cost of the bonds but the operations of the facility.” – (Erica Bryant)

She explained that a $30 million revenue bond was approved years ago. If the ordinance passes, $10 million of that would be used for this project. No current funds would be touched.

Letters of Support

The project has received written support from several groups and officials. These include representatives from USA Pickleball, the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, Visit Shreveport-Bossier, the Louisiana Senate, the Caddo Parish School Board, the Economic Development Department of Shreveport, and Louisiana State University Shreveport.

Looking Ahead

If approved, the facility could bring money and jobs to Caddo Parish. The Caddo Commission will continue discussing the project during its next meeting on Thursday.
