Gladstone’s Courts of Dreams: A major celebration is set for Thursday, June 5, 2025, as local pickleball players and supporters will gather at the newly completed Courts of Dreams. Located at the John and Melissa Besse Sports Park in Gladstone, Michigan, the facility’s grand opening will mark the official start of expanded recreational opportunities for athletes of all ages.
A Vision Realized Through Community Support
The journey began in 2023 when Gladstone Area Pickleball, a local group of enthusiasts, launched a crowdfunding campaign to build eight dedicated pickleball courts. After completing the courts in fall 2024 and holding a soft opening, the group now celebrates the finished project with added amenities such as pavilions and seating areas.
“It’s bringing people together all at once,” said founding member Janet Shandonay-Beauvais. “When we were down in the smaller area in Gladstone, we had to split up in different groups to be able to fit everybody in. Now, we see a lot more people. It’s very social, and we hope this is bringing more of the community out for more exercise.”
Open Access and Structured Play
The new courts are designed for use by players of all skill levels. From Monday to Saturday, organized club play takes place between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. for an annual membership fee of $20. One court remains available to the public during those hours.
After 11 a.m. each day, all courts are free and open for anyone to enjoy. The Courts of Dreams offer a welcoming, modern space for community members to gather, compete, and stay active in a friendly environment.
Expanding Pickleball and Community Wellness
This project reflects Gladstone’s growing interest in active, inclusive recreation. What began as a grassroots idea has turned into a permanent space built to support social interaction, fitness, and fun.
With the ribbon cutting just days away, the facility stand ready to serve as a new hub for pickleball in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula—uniting beginners, seasoned players, and families.
