Rancho Bernardo’s Pickleball Fundraiser: Rancho Bernardo’s annual Independence Day celebration will get a major boost from a community pickleball tournament scheduled for Sunday, June 29. The second annual event will take place from 3:30 to 7 p.m. at Rancho Arbolitos Swim & Tennis Club in Poway. All skill levels are welcome, and the registration deadline is June 18.
Fun, Food, and Fundraising on the Court
Organizers say the round-robin style tournament will include rotating partners to ensure a social, friendly environment. A prize will be awarded for the best patriotic outfit, and attendees can participate in a raffle and silent auction.
Registration costs $55 per person. That includes court play, dinner, wine, beer, and soft drinks.
“We are hoping for more participation this year,” said Myrna Estremera, first vice president of Spirit of the Fourth. She added that last year’s inaugural tournament drew 38 players and raised $3,200.
Supporting a Local Tradition
All proceeds from the event will go toward Rancho Bernardo’s 56th annual Spirit of the Fourth celebration, a staple of San Diego’s Independence Day calendar.
“Our annual Independence Day celebration is a cornerstone event for San Diego, attracting an anticipated 15,000 attendees this year,” Estremera said.
“This year’s theme is ‘Keep the Spirit Alive,’ and we are seeking sponsors to help us offset the rising costs of the event, specifically the fireworks display, which is budgeted at $30,000. The total event cost is estimated at $95,000.” – (Estremera)
How to Help Beyond the Tournament
In addition to the tournament, community members can support the event through Freedom Club memberships, priced at $150 for two people. Perks include VIP parade seating and parking, reception tickets, and other special invites.
Those interested in parade participation—including float entries, convertible drivers, or volunteers—must register by June 20. This year’s parade will start at 3:30 p.m. and travel several blocks through Rancho Bernardo’s business district.
