Courts of Dreams Pickleball Complex: On Thursday, the Gladstone Area Pickleball group held a ribbon-cutting to open the new “Courts of Dreams” pickleball complex at John & Melissa Besse Sports Park. The eight-court facility is now free and open to the public, marking a major win for the community.
Community Effort Makes a Dream a Reality
The project took several years of planning and fundraising, led by Gladstone Area Pickleball. The total cost of the complex reached $365,000. After an anonymous donation and support from local groups, there was still a $100,000 gap.
That’s when the local community stepped up in a big way. “Businesses stepped up,” said Gladstone Area Pickleball Board Member and Treasurer Rich Beauvais.
“Civic organizations stepped up. Individuals stepped up. It was really nice to see. It brought the community together and that was the idea. I just thought pickleball brings the community together, but they really embraced the project.” – (Rich Beauvais)
New Facility Already in Use
Now completed, the Courts of Dreams is the only dedicated eight-court pickleball facility in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.
“The only eight court dedicated facility in the U.P. right now. This is a beautiful site right now and people are just excited about it. Our members are excited about it. Non-members are excited about it.” – (Rich Beauvais)
People already play there daily, showing how popular the sport has become locally. The courts are located at 900 North Bluff Drive and are open to everyone, with no sign-up required.
Organized and Open Play Options
From 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., Monday through Saturday, the club hosts organized play sessions. Even during these times, one court always stays available for drop-in public use, making sure no one is left out.
Bringing People Together
The success of the Courts of Dreams shows how pickleball can bring a community closer. From large donations to individual support, the project united Gladstone residents around a shared goal. The courts are not just for play—they’re a place where people of all ages and skill levels can connect.
