Pickleball Complex May Add 16 Pickleball Courts: A major new pickleball facility may be coming to Palm Springs. A proposal to build 16 pickleball courts near Palm Springs International Airport will go before the city’s planning commission on Tuesday, June 10. If approved, the new complex would be called Pickle Park Palm Springs and operate daily from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Plans for Pickle Park Palm Springs
The applicant, PPUSA LLC, submitted plans for the facility to be built on land along Ramon Road, near the airport’s cell phone lot. The location is bordered by Avenue Evelita, Airport Center Drive, and El Placer Road. The new pickleball facility would occupy the east side of the lot.
In addition to the courts, PPUSA LLC is also seeking a permit from the California Alcohol and Beverage Control Board to serve beer and wine at the site.
Growing Demand for Courts in Palm Springs
The project responds to a surge in demand for pickleball in Palm Springs. The city’s DeMuth Park courts are often at full capacity. In fact, the city is already working to double the number of courts at DeMuth Park from 12 to 24.
Pickleball’s popularity is growing nationwide, especially among seniors, thanks to its slower pace and smaller court size compared to tennis. In Palm Springs, some tourists even bring their pickleball gear to play while on vacation.
City Review and Environmental Approval
The city’s Department of Planning Services has reviewed the proposal and recommended approval. For the project to move forward, the Planning Commission must determine that the development qualifies for exemption from the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).
This means the courts would not cause significant harm to the environment. An application is also under review by the Architectural Review Committee, which will evaluate the design and look of the facility.

The Palm Springs Planning Commission will discuss the proposal at its next meeting, set for 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 10, at 3200 East Tahquitz Canyon Way. If approved, the new complex could become a popular hotspot for local players and visiting enthusiasts.
