Powell Courts Introduces Stunning Pickleball Upgrades—See What’s New for Knoxville’s Active Community

Powell Pickleball Courts Reopening: A new chapter has begun for Powell Courts at 3204 Shropshire Boulevard, Knoxville, Tennessee. After years of wear and tear, the facility has been transformed into a modern and inviting space for the community. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on Thursday morning to celebrate the grand reopening of the courts.

The renovated area now features four pickleball courts, a new full-size basketball court, and a refreshed tennis court, along with improved accessibility for all visitors.

From Tennis Courts to Pickleball and More

In 2023, Knox County Parks and Recreation received a community petition requesting updated basketball courts at Powell. The project team used this feedback while working on the park’s master plan.

“We found this location and we decided, you know, we also had input on the park’s master plan for some pickleball. So, we decided we’d convert the four tennis courts into a tennis court, four pickleball courts, and then a full basketball court,” said Knox County Parks Director Joseph Mack.

Promoting Fitness and Community

Mack said he hopes the new facilities encourage residents to stay active and spend more time outdoors.

“We want to promote people getting outdoors and getting in some exercise, and pickleball, tennis, basketball — they’re great activities for the community because it’s also a social thing, in addition to the physical activity.” – (mack)

He also shared his pride in the project’s success.

“It’s a good feeling for us because we know that all our hard work paid off and that we’re doing something for the community and for the great folks in Knox County.” – (mack)

Open to All

The new Powell Courts are open daily from sunrise to sunset. Use of the courts is first come, first serve. The updates offer the community a better space to enjoy pickleball, basketball, and tennis — activities that promote both fitness and social connection.
