Gustine Pickleball Tournament: Gustine, California, hosted its inaugural pickleball tournament on Saturday at the Henry Miller tennis courts. The event aimed to raise funds for Valley Children’s Hospital and brought together many players and fans. The courts buzzed with energy as competitors played and spectators cheered.
Young Organizers Lead the Effort
The tournament was organized by a group of college students, including Daniel Gomes.
“The pickleball tournament is put on by me and four other college students. We’ve been planning it for about five months now. We set up the brackets and everything ourselves, along with coordinating all the vendors.” – (Daniel Gomes)
Vendors added to the lively scene by providing refreshments and other attractions, creating a festive atmosphere for everyone attending.
Tournament Winners by Division
The competition included three skill levels: Advanced, Intermediate, and Beginner. Winners in the Advanced Division were Sergio Aguilar and Issac Aguilar in first place, followed by Derek Louis and Dylan Johnson in second, and Scott Felber and Drew Felber in third.
In the Intermediate Division, Jim Coelho and Dayna Valadao took first place, with Christine Ibarra and Johnny Escobar second, and Keilani Barryhill and Peter Mendez third.
The Beginner Division winners were Robin Openshaw and Bill Morgan, followed by David Baba and David Moen in second place, and Tianah Vitorino and Tony Vitorino in third.
Community Spirit and Fundraising Impact
Though final fundraising totals are still being tallied, the event showed strong community support and a shared commitment to helping Valley Children’s Hospital. The success of this first tournament signals promising growth for pickleball as a recreational sport in Gustine and beyond.
