NOLA PicklePlex Automotive Pickleball Complex: A new automotive-themed pickleball complex, NOLA PicklePlex, officially opened on May 30 near the Jefferson and Orleans Parish line in New Orleans. The indoor facility, the largest of its kind in the area, adds to the growing number of pickleball venues as more people embrace the nation’s fastest-growing sport.
Largest Indoor Pickleball Complex in the Area
NOLA PicklePlex is located inside a 23,000-square-foot warehouse that also houses NOLA Motorcars, an auto dealership owned by Alex Katz. The building, purchased in 2023 for an undisclosed amount, now features seven regulation pickleball courts alongside vintage automotive décor.
“I only needed half the space and wanted something fun, so we put in an automotive-themed pickleball court,” said Katz, a Miami native and Tulane University graduate.
Growing Pickleball Scene in New Orleans
The opening of NOLA PicklePlex adds to a growing list of pickleball facilities in the region. Recent additions include the Jefferson Parish Recreation Department Pickleball Complex at Mike Miley Playground, Drew Brees’ Pickle N Pins on Veterans Boulevard, and The Exchange Pickleball + Beer in the Lower Garden District. Tulane University is also building new courts Uptown.
“The sport is getting a lot of traction on social media, but we noticed a few people are hesitant to pick up a paddle,” said NOLA PicklePlex General Manager Neal Alsop.
“We wanted to create a place where people aren’t afraid to sweat, to learn something new, and then be able to kick back with a beer after a game.” – (Neal Alsop)
Unique Features and Offerings
The complex welcomes players of all ages and skill levels. It offers private and group lessons with professional instructors, including Terri Lamperez, ranked among the top 50 women’s players in the MidSouth.
NOLA PicklePlex also plans to host events and tournaments. The facility’s automotive flair includes a retro Volkswagen Beetle suspended from the ceiling, giving the venue a distinct vibe.
Focus on Fun, Not Food
Unlike some nearby pickleball venues, NOLA PicklePlex does not provide full food and beverage service. However, a cooler with drinks is available, and Katz is applying for a liquor license to sell beer.
“It’s not a fad. Anybody can play and you can pick it up in a half hour.” – (Katz)
“Each of the facilities around town is different. Our thing is just we want to make pickleball fun.” – (Katz)
Memberships range from $80 per month for individuals to $180 per month for families. Non-members can reserve a court for $20 per 30-minute session. To celebrate its opening, NOLA PicklePlex is offering $2 open play through June and continues to provide free beginner classes.
Accessibility and Hours
NOLA PicklePlex is located at 500 Jefferson Highway. It operates from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends.
