Electric City Pickleball Club Launches New Work League: The Electric City Pickleball Club in Great Falls is offering a new summer work league at Jaycee Park. The league gives local businesses and organizations a chance to form teams and play weekly matches, helping coworkers stay active and meet others across the city through the fast-growing sport of pickleball.
A New Way for Workers to Play and Connect
The Great Falls work league lets teams of 4 to 6 players from local companies compete with others each week. The matches are held at the city’s outdoor pickleball courts during the summer season.
Anne Schmidt, Secretary of the Electric City Pickleball Club, said, “Businesses or organizations in town can get a group of 4 to 6 people together for this work league, and they’ll play against other teams each week.”
Pickleball’s Rise in Great Falls
Anne Schmidt shared that pickleball has grown quickly in the U.S., especially after the pandemic. “It is the fastest growing sport in the United States right now. And it’s exploded, especially since Covid,” Schmidt said.
She added that the sport’s active nature appeals to many. “Anything that is recreational and anything that is physically active, I think people are searching for those kinds of opportunities,” she said.
For Dwane Sutphan, joining the sport meant more than just playing. Dwane Sutphan said, “I wanted to, you know, do my part to help promote pickleball in Great Falls.” Making New Friends Through the Game.
The work league isn’t only about friendly competition. It also helps players meet new people in the community. “You’re in a bit of a competition, but you’re also meeting other players from other businesses or, or from around town,” said Dwane Sutphan.
The Electric City Pickleball Club welcomes players of all skill levels and backgrounds. “We welcome new players. We welcome players from out of town,” Sutphan said. He added, “Pickleball is, such a, social sport that, you know, that just promotes that too.”
Pickleball in the Park All Summer
The club runs regular play at Jaycee Park, located at 225 23rd Ave NE in Great Falls. Outdoor sessions are held from June through September, weather permitting. Game times include:
Monday and Wednesday mornings from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6 p.m. to dusk
Saturday mornings from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
The group also hosts a “Skills and Drills” session every Wednesday morning to help players improve.
Growing a Healthy, Active Community
The summer work league brings people together, encourages exercise, and supports a growing pickleball community in Great Falls. With an easy-to-learn game and welcoming players, the Electric City Pickleball Club hopes more locals will pick up a paddle and join the fun this summer.
