Gordon County Pickleball Tournament Rallies Community, Raises Funds for Local Students

Gordon County Pickleball Tournament: The Gordon County Chamber of Commerce’s Young Professional Committee hosted its second Pickleball Tournament on Saturday at Pickleball 706 in Calhoun, Georgia. The pickleball event brought together 23 teams, 20 sponsors, and the local community to support high school student programs in Calhoun-Gordon County.

The tournament replaced the committee’s previous “Amazing Race” fundraiser and continued the success of its first tournament, held in 2024 at the City of Calhoun’s new pickleball courts. Owners Michael Larscheid and Pam Larscheid donated the use of their indoor facility for the event.

Community Support and Sponsors

Mohawk Industries was the Signature Sponsor, leading the group of local businesses that backed the tournament. Other top sponsors included Chick-fil-A Calhoun as the Breakfast Sponsor, City of Calhoun as the original Venue Sponsor, Lyles Wealth Management as Shirt Sponsor, Mannington Mills as Hospitality Sponsor, Pickleball 706 as Venue Sponsor, and Vitruvian Health/Hamilton Health Calhoun as Medal Sponsor.

Silver-level sponsors were AdventHealth Gordon, Builtwell Bank, Calhoun Coffee Company, Commercial Floor Resources, Laminin Industries, Momon Construction, Shaw Industries Group, and Starr-Mathews Agency.

Bronze sponsors included Wayne Davis Concrete, Fair’s Auto Service & Repair, North Georgia National Bank, Op5, and Ryan Homes.

Team Play and Organization

Twenty-three teams competed in the tournament, with cash prizes going to winners in each group. Michael Larscheid acted as tournament director. Staff from Pickleball 706 and members of the Young Professional Committee helped run the event.

“This event was a perfect example of how our business community comes together to make an impact,” said Steven Duncan, Chair of the Young Professionals Committee and Account Executive at Starr-Mathews Agency. “We’re so grateful to the sponsors and teams who helped make it a success.”

Steven Proper, Vice Chair of the Young Professionals Committee and Director of Operations at Shaw Industries Group, shared, “Seeing the energy, teamwork, and generosity from our community leaders was truly inspiring. These funds will go directly toward programs that equip students with the tools they need to succeed.”

Support for Students

The money raised will go toward programs that help local high school students in Calhoun-Gordon County. These programs focus on academic enrichment, leadership training, and preparing students for their future careers.
