The Third Annual Volley for Hope pickleball event raised enough funds to provide 362,700 meals for people in need. The pickleball event was organized by Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee and took place over the weekend at the Pavilion of Pickleball on Racquet Club Way in Knoxville.
The pickleball tournament featured 198 players from eight different states and included a total of 298 matches. All games were livestreamed by WATE on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, allowing more people to tune in and support the cause.
Community Support Drives Big Impact
The goal of the tournament was to raise money to support hunger relief efforts across Second Harvest Food Bank’s 18-county service region. By combining sports with community giving, the event brought together players, supporters, and viewers.
“It’s amazing to know and to have that feeling knowing that the community is coming out to support us year after year,” said Jon Rice, a spokesperson for Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee.
A Successful Weekend of Matches
With nearly 200 participants and hundreds of matches, the event was a major success. The Pavilion of Pickleball served as the perfect venue to host the tournament, welcoming players of different skill levels and drawing in attention from across the region.
The tournament not only raised money but also raised awareness about hunger issues in East Tennessee. Every dollar contributed helped provide meals through the nonprofit’s network.
Looking Ahead
The funds raised will go directly toward feeding families, children, and seniors in East Tennessee. The continuing success of Volley for Hope shows the power of community involvement in helping solve food insecurity.
Thanks to the efforts of organizers, players, and supporters, Second Harvest Food Bank can now serve thousands more people in its region.
