New Pickleball Facility in Lower Saucon Township Opens at Polk Valley Park

Pickleball Facility in Lower Saucon: A new pickleball facility officially opened in Lower Saucon Township on Tuesday, June 10, 2025. Four new pickleball courts were unveiled at Polk Valley Park near Hellertown. The courts were built by the township’s public works department and were introduced during a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by Acting Township Manager Jay Finnigan.

A Community Project Years in the Making

The idea to build pickleball courts was first brought up in 2022 by former councilwoman Jennifer Zavacky. After she left the council, Councilman Tom Carocci continued to push for the project. Former Township Manager Mark Hudson also worked to help move the plan forward.

The township’s public works department completed nearly all the work. Roger Rasich, director of the department, estimated that they handled “95 percent” of the job. The courts are located near the top of the park and come with a nearby parking lot.

Opening Ceremony and First Game

The ribbon-cutting event was attended by Jay Finnigan, members of the public works team, and three township council members—Council President Laura Ray, Councilman Tom Carocci, and Councilwoman Priscilla deLeon. Before the event started, public works staff worked to clear puddles left by earlier rain.

Right after the ceremony, people began playing pickleball. A sign posted on the fence around the courts explains the rules of the game and how to keep score, helping new players understand the sport.

More Than Just Courts

Polk Valley Park is located at 2068 Polk Valley Road in Hellertown, near the Saucon Valley School District. The park includes a dog park, playground, picnic pavilion, sports fields, and walking trails. The park is open daily from dawn until dusk.

Growing Interest in Pickleball

The addition of the courts shows how popular pickleball is becoming in the community. Support from township leaders and public works made this new space possible. Now, residents have another way to stay active and enjoy the outdoors.
