Pickleball Courts at Maplewood Park: The City of Rochester has opened its first pickleball-only courts at Maplewood Park. City workers changed two old tennis courts into six new pickleball courts. These courts are open to everyone, first-come, first-serve, during regular park hours. The project gives local players a place to enjoy the fast-growing sport.
More Court Options for Pickleball Players
The new courts are located in the Middle Maplewood section of the park. This area sits between Riverside Street, Park View Street, and Maplewood Drive. The change comes as more people across the country play pickleball, leading cities like Rochester to create more space for the game.
Mayor Malik Evans shared his excitement about the city’s support for the sport. “Pickleball is one of the fastest growing sports in the nation, so I’m very happy to see the City of Rochester create opportunities for our residents and visitors to enjoy this increasingly popular, fun, and active pastime,” said Rochester Mayor Malik Evans. “Keeping our recreation facilities up to date and relevant with evolving interests is an important part of our mission to support an outstanding quality of life in Rochester.”
More Projects on the Way
The city isn’t stopping with Maplewood Park. New pickleball courts are almost ready at Farmington Park on Merchants Road. Officials also plan to repaint some current tennis courts so they can be used for both tennis and pickleball.
These upgrades will help the city meet the rising demand for places to play. With more people interested in the sport, shared and dedicated courts will provide new chances for outdoor fun.
A Growing Sport in Local Parks
The opening of these courts shows Rochester’s effort to keep up with what people want in recreation. Adding places to play pickleball supports health, fun, and community life. As more courts are built, the city will be better prepared to welcome beginners and skilled players alike.
