Escape the Heat: Palm Beach County Unveils Air-Conditioned Indoor Pickleball Courts for Summer Play

Air-Conditioned Indoor Pickleball Courts: Indoor pickleball has returned to Palm Beach County, offering players a cool place to stay active during the hot summer months. The Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation Department is hosting games in air-conditioned gyms at three recreation centers through early August.

Cool Places to Play

The three gyms—West Boynton, Westgate, and West Jupiter—each offer three pickleball courts. These courts are inside multi-use gyms, and though the nets are portable and lines may cross with other sports, they give players a chance to avoid the summer heat and rain.

Games are played to 11 points. If the courts are full, the “next-up paddle system” is used. This means players rotate in based on who arrived first.

Where and When to Play

At the West Boynton Recreation Center, located at 6000 Northtree Boulevard in Lake Worth Beach behind Park Vista High School, play happens on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. through August 2.

At the Westgate Recreation Center at 3691 Oswego Avenue in West Palm Beach, games run Sundays from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. until August 3.

The West Jupiter Recreation Center, located at 6401 West Indiantown Road in Jupiter, is also available for play. Players must call 561-694-5430 in advance to reserve a spot.

Rules and Fees

The program charges a $5 fee per player. Anyone under 18 must be signed in by a legal guardian before participating.

Though the courts may not offer a professional setup, they give residents a safe and easy option to stay active without worrying about heat or weather changes.

Focus on Wellness

According to the Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation Department, “Participants are able to participate in a safe environment while engaging in sports and wellness activities important to their quality of life.”

The department adds that regular play can “help boost mental health, foster social connections, and enhance cognitive function.”
