Picklr Arriving Newark’s Grove With Dedicated Pickleball Facility

Picklr Arriving Newark’s Grove for indoor sports with the addition of a new Picklr pickleball facility at Newark’s Grove. Situated at the former KMart site, this new venue follows the recent approval of Lefty’s Alleys and Eats, which will feature bowling, axe throwing, and golf simulators. The City Council’s unanimous approval for Picklr shows the growing demand for dedicated pickleball spaces in Delaware.

With many locations already established and plans for more, Picklr will bring specialized indoor pickleball courts, locker rooms, and league play to the area, filling a notable gap in indoor pickleball facilities. The facility is anticipated to open in early Spring 2025.

Picklr’s Growing Presence in Pickleball

Picklr, with 36 existing locations and plans for over 275 nationwide and international sites, is making its mark. Unlike Lefty’s, Picklr will specialize exclusively in pickleball, featuring dedicated courts, locker rooms, a pro shop, and league play. The closest Picklr is currently in Newtown, Pennsylvania.

The new Newark location promises to fill a significant gap in indoor pickleball facilities, offering a specialized environment compared to the temporary setups commonly seen in Delaware.

Indoor pickleball facilities in Delaware are a rare commodity. Recent efforts like Midway Motion and Fitness in Rehoboth, which secured $2 million to build 12 indoor pickleball courts, highlight the growing demand for dedicated pickleball spaces. Newark’s Picklr will mirror this trend with its proposed 12 courts, adding to the area’s expanding sports infrastructure.

Grove’s Revitalization

The Grove, once a bustling hub with businesses like West Coast Video and Encore Books, has seen a resurgence with new additions such as Raising Canes, Starbucks, and Crunch Fitness.

The former KMart site, which closed in November 2018, is undergoing a significant transformation. Picklr’s owners anticipate that the renovation, managed by Fusco Management, will be completed by January 2025. With an additional 2-3 months needed for court and facility setup, the Picklr location is expected to open in early Spring 2025.
