Foley Unveils New Pickleball Courts and Hotel—A Game-Changer for Sports Tourism

Foley Unveils New Pickleball Courts: Foley, Alabama is stepping up its game in sports tourism by adding new pickleball courts and a 73-room Cobblestone Hotel near its event center. The city hopes the updates will bring more players, tournaments, and visitors to the area.

New Pickleball Courts Aim to Draw Crowds

Pickleball is one of the fastest-growing sports in the U.S., and Foley is embracing the trend. The city has built new courts that can be used by both locals and visiting athletes. These courts are designed for regular play and large tournaments, helping Foley become a top spot for pickleball events in Alabama.

The courts are part of the city’s larger plan to expand its sports offerings and attract visitors interested in competitive play. Officials believe the sport’s popularity will bring in new energy and more tourists throughout the year.

Hotel Built Close to Sports Facilities

To support this growing interest, the new Foley Cobblestone Hotel will provide 73 rooms just a short walk from the city’s main sports complex. This allows visiting players and fans to stay nearby without the need to drive.

“This particular project is very important to the city,” said Foley city administrator Mike Thompson. “We have a large sports tourism facility just to the north of here, and having another hotel that literally is walking distance to our event center, it really makes a difference in us retaining some of the lodging that we want to get from our Sports Tourism facilities.”

Developer Credits Local Teamwork

Jeremy Griesbach, president of development for Cobblestone Hotels, said this is the company’s second hotel in Alabama. He credited the city’s leadership and local teams for helping the project move forward.

“A lot of important people helped get this thing across the finish line,” Jeremy Griesbach said. “Thanks to the mayor, Mike Thompson, everybody at the city of Foley, all the inspection teams, the planning commission, people over at Riviera Utilities. Everyone has been so helpful and made this a great project.”

The company is also building a third Cobblestone Hotel in Bay Minette.

Pickleball’s Role in Foley’s Future

Foley’s investment in pickleball shows its long-term vision. By offering quality courts and nearby lodging, the city is setting itself up as a go-to destination for regional and national events. These changes are expected to help the local economy by bringing in more players, fans, and families.
