Smash for Literacy: Raise a Reader Pickleball Tournament Unites North Okanagan for a Fun-Filled Cause

Raise a Reader Pickleball Tournament: The Literacy Society of the North Okanagan is hosting a charity pickleball tournament on Saturday, June 21, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Predator Ridge Commons Racquet Club. This “Raise a Reader” event aims to support local literacy programs through a fun and friendly competition.

Pickleball for a Cause

The tournament invites teams of four to participate for $100 per person. Each player will receive a $50 tax receipt. The fee also includes a swag bag, lunch, access to games, prizes, and pickleball clinics. All participants who register by May 31 are guaranteed a free event t-shirt.

This event is part of the Literacy Society of the North Okanagan’s ongoing fundraising efforts to improve reading and writing skills in the region. It blends recreation with community support, encouraging players of all levels to join in and help raise funds for a good cause.

Fun Starts Friday

To kick off the tournament, the “Pickle Party” will take place on Friday, June 20, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the same venue. This evening is designed for players and guests to get ready for the tournament weekend while enjoying a variety of fun activities.

Attendees can join a clinic, collect their swag bags, play games, and earn “pickle points.” There will also be food available from the Big Fat Greek Food Truck, making it a great chance to relax, socialize, and get into the tournament spirit. Guests are encouraged to bring friends and come hungry.

Register Early and Get Involved

Spots are limited, and early registration is recommended to ensure all participants receive full benefits. Interested players can sign up online at www.literacysociety.ca or by scanning the registration QR code provided on event posters.

The event is organized with support from Postmedia’s Morning Star, and all proceeds will go toward supporting local literacy initiatives.

Why It Matters

This tournament is more than just a sporting event. It’s an opportunity for the community to come together and make a difference in people’s lives. By supporting literacy, participants are helping children and adults improve their reading and writing skills, which can open up new opportunities in education and work.

The Literacy Society of the North Okanagan uses events like this to raise awareness and support for its programs. The combination of pickleball, food, games, and giving back ensures that the weekend will be fun and meaningful for all involved.
