Decatur’s $2.6M Jimmy Johns Pickleball Center Swings Open—Free Play for Kids, Big Plans Ahead

Decatur’s new Jimmy Johns Pickleball Center at Point Mallard is now open and ready for its official launch. The $2.6 million facility covers 15,000 square feet and features 12 courts. It will begin charging a fee on June 27, but entry remains free for players 18 and under.

The indoor center is currently open to the public with free access. Starting June 27, adults will need to pay to play. The courts are also designed to be flexible—nets and posts can be removed so the building can be used as an event venue when needed.

A Boost for Pickleball and the City

This new center is part of a larger effort to support the fast-growing sport of pickleball. It is expected to help the local economy by bringing in visitors, players, and events.

Stephanie McLain, Decatur Park and Recreation Daily Operations Manager, said,

“Hopefully it will bring in revenue for the city, have an economic impact, and bring players into the city. Those are all wins for us as a community.”

Tournaments are already being planned, and the courts are busy with players of all ages enjoying the game.

Fun for the Whole Family

Pickleball is growing quickly, and the city hopes this new facility encourages more people to join the fun. Young children, teens, and seniors are all welcome to play.

“Pickleball is so big right now, it’s a growing sport. We have ages coming in from 5 years old or younger and all the way up to seniors that come in. It’s great exercise, it is a lot of fun,”. “We have some truly great athletes in this area and we’re also going to be offering some free clinics and things like that to help promote and drive the sport.”(Stephanie McLain)

The city hopes the combination of fun, fitness, and competition will make the center a popular destination.

Growing Impact on Decatur

The Jimmy Johns Pickleball Center is more than a place to play. With tournaments, clinics, and free play for kids, it aims to be a hub for community activity. The project is already drawing excitement from local players and could bring new energy and visitors to Decatur.
