Marshall Pickleball Court Fundraiser Nears Deadline: Will the City Hit Its Goal in Time?

Marshall Pickleball Court Fundraiser: The City of Marshall is close to reaching its fundraising goal to help build six new pickleball courts as part of its planned park expansion. The project, located at the Marshall Athletic Field, is part of a larger effort to transform unused land into a recreational hub for all ages.

A $50,000 crowdfunding campaign for the new pickleball courts and park amenities ends at 10:30 p.m. on June 19. If successful, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) will match the amount with an equal grant, pushing the project forward.

Pickleball Courts Part of New Eaton Park

The pickleball courts will be part of Eaton Park, located at Hanover and Fountain streets on land donated by the Eaton Corporation in 2020. Eaton has a strong presence in Marshall, with about 170 employees and more than 600 acres used for vehicle testing.

The planned park will also include a splash pad, parking lot, public restrooms, pavilion, walkways, and new trees. The total project cost is $2.4 million, with just $100,000 left to raise.

The city’s effort is supported through the Public Spaces Community Places program, a joint venture between the MEDC, Michigan Municipal League, and Patronicity.

A Place to Play and Connect

Dan Gilmartin, Chief Executive Officer of the Michigan Municipal League, spoke about the project’s purpose.
“The Marshall Community Pickleball Project is more than just new courts and a splash pad; it’s an investment in community connection and health,” he said.
“By transforming an underused lot into a vibrant recreational area, the project will make the City of Marshall more welcoming to both residents and visitors. It brings people together across generations, creating an environment that is accessible and enjoyable for all. This is what placemaking is all about.”
