From Shared to Supreme: Forest Lakes Pickleball Court Opening Delivers Six New Courts

Forest Lakes Pickleball Court Opening: Forest Lakes in Albemarle County has opened six new pickleball courts, bringing excitement to the local community. Residents pushed for the upgrade after struggling with shared tennis courts. Now, dedicated pickleball courts offer better playing conditions and more opportunities for competition, fitness, and fun.

A New Space Just for Pickleball

The new courts are marked only for pickleball, replacing the old shared tennis space. Forest Lakes resident Xing Qi said, “It’s really nice. So proud of our community.” Brian Farmer also praised the courts: “They did a nice job of refinishing them.”

Players now enjoy clearer lines and easier play. “It’s definitely easier to call a ball in or out,” said Brian Farmer. “It makes a big difference.” Xing Qi added, “The lines are clearer, and we have blocks of colors so it’s much easier to look at the courts.”

Residents Pushed for the Change

The new courts didn’t come overnight. Forest Lakes residents asked for the upgrade last year and took their case to the board. Miriam Heston explained, “One of our biggest points was whatever we did down here in terms of capital improvements, it had to improve the value of our homes. We felt the future was pickleball. So a group of us went to the board and made our case for more pickleball courts.”

The effort paid off this year with the opening of six full-time courts.

Demand for Courts Was Growing

Before the new courts, getting court time was tough. Brian Farmer said, “When we play on Wednesdays it’s a fight to get the courts. We have 16 people to play and sometimes we can’t get enough courts for everybody.”

The new courts help reduce waiting time and allow more players to join games.

A Game for Everyone

Pickleball has become more than just a casual hobby in Forest Lakes. “You don’t have to be an extreme athlete to have fun,” said Brian Farmer. “There is a lot of competition and competitive edge and that makes it a lot of fun.”

Miriam Heston shared how much the sport means to her: “We love it, I’m an addict, I’m truly an addict.”
