Pickleball Rally Against Alzheimer’s Disease in Maine Shows the Power of Local Action

Pickleball Rally Against Alzheimer’s Disease: On Saturday, June 21, 2025, more than 50 pickleball players in Saco, Maine, will take to the courts from dawn to dusk to raise money and awareness for the Alzheimer’s Association. The event, held at the Beach Street courts, will be part of a global effort to support those affected by Alzheimer’s.

Pickleball Court to Stay Active from Morning to Night

From 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., one court on Beach Street will remain in continuous use, with players rotating in shifts. The goal is to keep the rally going for 14 hours straight while collecting donations for the cause. Organizers aim to raise at least $1,600 through community support and participation.

This all-day event will align with similar fundraisers scheduled around the world, all dedicated to helping the Alzheimer’s Association in its fight against the disease.

Players to Honor Loved Ones and Caregivers

Event organizer Lisa Barnes says the cause is deeply personal for many of the participants.

“So most of us here are playing probably in memory or in honor of a loved one who is either passed from Alzheimer’s or has Alzheimer’s now, or we know caregivers who are helping out somebody else who has Alzheimer’s,So this is really all about awareness and building community and helping everybody out and making a donation at the same time.”-(Lisa Barnes)

A Community Effort for a Greater Cause

The Saco pickleball community will not only play for fun but also for impact. Spectators will be welcome and encouraged to support the effort by donating or simply showing up in solidarity. Organizers believe that even small local actions can create meaningful change when people work together.

All funds raised during the event will go to the Alzheimer’s Association to support research, education, and resources for patients and caregivers.

A Step Toward Awareness and Action

This upcoming pickleball event shows how sports communities can take an active role in important causes. Organizers hope it sparks similar efforts in other towns, turning games into acts of giving. If successful, the Saco fundraiser may return in future years as an annual tradition.
