On Thursday, June 19, 2025, kids in Kernville, California, enjoyed a day of learning and laughter at the first Youth Pickleball Clinic hosted by the Kern River Valley Pickleball Club. Held at Riverside Park, the event welcomed children aged 8 to 17 and introduced them to one of America’s fastest-growing sports.
Kids Learn Basics with Community Support
The clinic provided young athletes with free lessons, equipment, snacks, and drinks. Club members volunteered their time to teach the basics of pickleball, including how to serve, rally, and move on the court. The fun-filled day gave local kids a chance to try something new in a welcoming and active environment.
The event was designed to encourage physical activity and community bonding through pickleball.
Simple Skills That Make a Big Difference
Club member Jeff Mixon shared valuable tips with participants to help them get a feel for the game.
“It’s all about patience,” said Mixon. He added, “It’s all in your arm, not your wrist,” as he demonstrated how to hit the ball properly. His advice helped kids stay relaxed and focus on technique rather than power.
A Summer Series in the Making
Following the success of the June 19 clinic, the Kern River Valley Pickleball Club announced plans to host similar youth clinics once a month throughout the summer. These future events aim to keep kids active while giving them a space to grow their skills and build friendships.
The club hopes to foster a long-term interest in pickleball among young players and continue building a strong community around the sport in Kernville.
