Indian Lake Pickleball Complex: On Friday, June 20, 2025, the community of Indian Lake in Lakeview, Ohio, celebrated the grand opening of a brand-new six-court pickleball complex at Old Field Beach, part of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources’ property. The courts are expected to become a major attraction for both local residents and visiting players, blending sport, scenic beauty, and economic growth.
A Community-Driven Project Comes to Life
The project, years in the making, was made possible through collaboration between local volunteers, the Indian Lake Development Corporation, Logan County Commissioners, the State of Ohio, and multiple private donors. The idea was born from local passion and a vision to give Indian Lake residents a space to enjoy the fast-growing sport of pickleball while drawing in outside visitors.
Sport Meets Local Economic Development
Organizers see the courts not just as a recreational outlet, but also as an economic engine for the Indian Lake region. With the courts situated beside the lake, the hope is that they will draw players who travel for pickleball and spend money locally.
“We knew that this would be an economic development opportunity for our community,” -(Laura Kunkle, one of the event organizers)
“Sure, we wanted a place for people in our community who play pickleball to come, but we knew that people from outside of our area would come to play pickleball, and they would come and spend their money here. If you’re really into pickleball, you want to play in unique destinations, and this is a very unique pickleball destination with this beautiful lake view right here at the courts.”-(Laura Kunkle)
Tournament Plans and Long-Term Goals
The organizers aim to sustain the facility through ongoing donations and future pickleball events. Two tournaments are already being planned for 2026, which will help both raise funds and increase awareness of the new courts.
“Next year, we’ll probably have two tournaments, and that will not only engage community and other players to come see our place, but it’ll also help our funds and get everything—that’s how we’re going to kind of maintain a slush fund to take care of these courts,” -(Robin Francisco, also an event organizer)

Features Designed for All Ages
The new complex includes six individual pickleball courts, conveniently located near shared parking with the beach and a dog park. This ensures accessibility and adds to the recreational appeal of Old Field Beach for families and visitors alike.
With stunning views, well-planned facilities, and a community ready to support it, the Indian Lake pickleball courts are set to become a year-round hub for fun, fitness, and tourism.
