The first-ever South Pasadena Pickleball Crown Tournament was held in collaboration between the South Pasadena Chinese-American Club (SPCC) and the City of South Pasadena, successfully combining sport and community service. The event raised over $8,000 to support South Pasadena High School scholarships, marking a strong start for what could become an annual tradition.
A Community Comes Together for a Cause
The Pickleball tournament welcomed 64 players grouped into 32 teams, competing across a range of skill levels. Divisions included men’s advanced, men’s intermediate, women’s, doubles, and a beginner/fun level, ensuring players of all abilities could take part.
Participants enjoyed a lively and competitive atmosphere throughout the event, which aimed to promote not just pickleball but also educational support for local youth.
City Leadership and Local Flavor
South Pasadena City Councilman Jon Primuth served as the event emcee, energizing the crowd and celebrating the players’ efforts. The tournament was followed by a spirited awards party hosted by Mamma’s Brick Oven Pizza & Pasta, where winners were recognized and the community gathered to reflect on the day’s success.
A Win for Local Students
All proceeds from the event—more than $8,000—will go directly toward scholarship funding for students at South Pasadena High School, highlighting the tournament’s meaningful impact.
By combining friendly competition with a charitable cause, the SPCC and the city demonstrated how recreational events can strengthen community ties while supporting local education.
