Peachtree City Pickleball Showdown: Residents Rally for More Courts as Council Weighs Costly Decision

Peachtree City Pickleball Court Expansion: On June 19, 2025, Peachtree City residents gathered at the council meeting to ask for more public pickleball courts. Dressed in matching pickleball shirts, players packed the room and spoke during public comment to explain why they believe the city needs to invest in more court space.

Community Pushes for More Facilities

Three pickleball players stood before the city council and shared why expanding court space is important. They praised the sport’s health benefits, especially for retired citizens, and pointed out that nearby cities like Newnan, Griffin, and Carrollton have more courts than Peachtree City.

Speakers warned that local players could start traveling to those cities to play and spend money, while more courts in Peachtree City could bring outside visitors in return. One speaker said, “Please listen to the people you ask to volunteer.” Another told council members they are “not visionaries, but maintainers” if they continue to delay court construction.

A recreational advisory group had already recommended building 24 courts for the city.

City Council Shares Concerns About Cost and Space

After hearing from the public, council member Suzanne Brown explained that the city is not against pickleball but faces high costs and space issues. She said the council is searching for good spots to build new courts, but that the process is slow. “They are highly expensive to build, even with SPLOST funds,” she said.

Council member Clint Holland agreed and said the issue is mostly a misunderstanding. He reminded everyone that courts need to be placed where they won’t disturb nearby homes or take away from other needs.
