A Place for All, Not Just Pickleball Players
Tory Leggat said their goal was to create a friendly space where people feel welcome, whether they come to play or relax.
“Above all else, we want everyone to feel like they belong here,” she said.
The center features 19 indoor and two outdoor courts. It also includes spots to work, eat, and socialize.
The space was once a Sam’s Club, but Leggat said they redesigned it to feel warmer and more inviting. The food hall includes local vendors like Salt and Vinegar, Soupsmith, Sabor y Salsa, and Magic Food Bus, with additional options like pizza, ice cream, and a bar.
“We didn’t want this to feel like the cafe of a pickleball place, we want the food hall to stand alone and be its own thing,”. “We wanted to make it so that if you don’t care about pickleball, this is still a cool place to hang out.”(Tory Leggat)
Pickleball for Every Level
Relish offers free intro classes and coaching for those new to the game.
“You don’t really meet former pickleball players, once they’re into it, they are into it,” said Tory Leggat. “The addiction is real,” (Relish Pickleball Director Ben Lampert).
Lampert explained how pickleball is easier to pick up than tennis due to its smaller court, lower net, and simple underhand serve. He also noted the social part of the game. Players are close together, making it easier to laugh, talk, and connect.
Relish has warm-up and cool-down rooms for players and cushioned indoor courts to protect joints. Players can book courts or join open play games.
Soundproofing and Flexible Access
Relish also addressed concerns about noise. They built thick walls between the courts and other parts of the building. Five layers of drywall and insulation were added to protect Ascent Church next door from sound. Inside the food hall, customers can see players through glass but cannot hear them.
Memberships range from $70 to $240 a month. They include 10 hours of play up to unlimited access. However, guests can also pay $9 per hour per person without a membership.
