Billings Fire Pickleball Fundraiser Event: The Billings Fire Department hosted its first pickleball fundraiser from June 20 to June 22 at Lillis Park in Billings. The event raised over $1,000 for the Billings Firefighters Benevolent Fund, which supports local families facing emergencies such as fires and medical crises.
Firefighters Step Up for a Cause
Firefighters traded their gear for paddles as they played pickleball to raise money and connect with the community. The event was filled with energy and unity as teams competed while also supporting a meaningful cause.
Ben Jares, president of the Billings Firefighters Benevolent Fund, appreciated the younger firefighters’ efforts.
“It’s awesome to see some of the younger firefighters stepping up and filling the roles and doing the work to raise money to help people,” said Ben Jares on Sunday.
Connecting with the Community
More than just a fundraiser, the event gave residents a chance to interact with their local fire department in a relaxed setting. Visibility and personal connections were just as important as raising funds.
“Something that gets us involved with the community and gets our faces out there as well,” said Billings firefighter Ashley Swassing.
Giving Back Through the Benevolent Fund
The Billings Fire Department has supported the benevolent fund for over 20 years. It helps families in need—especially those who’ve lost homes in fires or face unexpected medical costs.
“We know that anything, no matter how small, will help with covering that for them,” said Ashley Swassing.
The funds raised from the pickleball event will be directed back into the community to provide assistance during emergencies.
“It goes back into the community,” Swassing added.
Looking Ahead
With the success of the fundraiser, the Billings Fire Department showed how teamwork and a fun event like pickleball can make a difference. They plan to continue building strong ties with the public while supporting those in crisis.
