Club 509 Pickleball Tournament Smashes Attendance Records in Kennewick—What’s Fueling the Craze?

Club 509 Pickleball Tournament Kennewick: The Club 509 Pickleball Tournament wrapped up in Kennewick after four days of exciting matches. Held at Lawrence Scott Park, the event drew around 400 players from across the region, including several professionals, all competing for a total prize pool of $15,000.

Participation on the Rise

The tournament saw a major increase in attendance compared to last year’s 250 participants. Players of all ages and skill levels came together to enjoy the growing sport of pickleball.

Susannah Barr, a professional pickleball player from Boise, Idaho, returned for her fifth appearance at the tournament.
“I keep coming back because it’s just a great location. It’s great people. They treat you well, and everybody’s just excited to have pickleball growing in the area,” said Susannah Barr.

A Sport for Everyone

Pickleball’s easy entry point continues to attract new players. Carney Lucas, who played his matches earlier in the weekend, spoke about its inclusivity.
“I think the barrier to entry is just so low, that almost anybody and everybody can play, participate and have fun,” said Carney Lucas.

He also praised Club 509’s role in welcoming newcomers to the sport.
“The sport itself is exploding and Club 509 is here along for the ride and here available to just help anybody and everybody that wants to learn, grow. Be coached, understand the game more, get better and have more fun,” Lucas added.

Transition from Tennis to Pickleball

Peter Brown, a Tri-Cities local with a tennis background, described how switching to pickleball brought its own learning curve.
“As a tennis player, the smaller nuances took a while to figure it out. It was like frustrating. And it was like, okay, hold on. You don’t just you don’t just kind of bully them off the court,” said Peter Brown.

A Bright Future for Pickleball

The large turnout and positive feedback show how fast pickleball is growing in Kennewick and beyond. Club 509’s role in organizing the event and encouraging community involvement highlights the sport’s growing impact.

As interest in pickleball continues to grow, the tournament’s success suggests that even bigger events may come to the area in the future.
