Ashburn Family Serves Up a Backyard Pickleball Paradise—How One Home Became the Talk of the Neighborhood

Ashburn Family Backyard Pickleball Court: The Burnett family in Ashburn, Virginia, turned their backyard into something unique—a full-size regulation pickleball court. Built two years ago, the court has become a lively space for daily matches and family fun, reflecting their long-time love for the sport.

A Backyard Unlike Any Other

While many homes in Ashburn have basketball hoops or pools, few can say they have a dedicated pickleball court. The Burnetts made that vision a reality, building a full-size court that quickly became the heart of their backyard.

Edward Burnett has been playing pickleball for over 20 years, well before the sport’s recent rise in popularity.
“I still have the same paddle that (I got) in 2003 and I still use it today,” said Edward Burnett.

An Early Pickleball Fan

Edward Burnett began playing pickleball after college while living in Northern Virginia. His interest in the sport came years before it became widely known across the country.

Though many people only discovered pickleball during or after the COVID-19 pandemic, Burnett was already a fan. The sport has since been named the fastest-growing sport in America by the Sports & Fitness Industry Association.

A Lasting Love for the Game

The Burnetts’ court has led to regular games and a new way for the family and their friends to stay active and connected. The court’s design matches regulation standards, making it a rare and valuable addition to their home.

A Growing Trend in Neighborhoods

With pickleball gaining national attention, more people may follow the Burnetts’ example and bring the game home. The Burnetts’ story shows how a personal project can build stronger family ties and help support a sport loved by many.
