Kansas Pickleball Court Upgrades with AARP: Two Kansas communities will soon see new or improved pickleball courts, thanks to 2025 Community Challenge grants from AARP. The City of Cimarron and the Caney Community Betterment Group are among five Kansas recipients sharing a total of $72,500 in funding aimed at supporting community well-being, especially for older adults.
The Caney Community Betterment Group has been awarded an $18,000 grant to upgrade local recreational spaces. The project will include repainting basketball courts, installing new hoops, and transforming unused tennis courts into new pickleball courts. This effort is designed to encourage physical activity and social connection, especially for people aged 50 and older.
In Cimarron, the city government will use its $15,000 grant to add a brand-new pickleball court at Cimarron Crossing Park. The project also includes plans for shaded seating areas and benches, creating a welcoming space for both players and spectators.
Encouraging Healthy Living for All Ages
The AARP Community Challenge is now in its ninth year and has supported dozens of projects across Kansas. The organization says these quick-action grants aim to create spaces that help people of all ages stay active and connected.
“AARP Kansas is proud to work with communities across the state to help make them more livable for people of all ages,” said Glenda DuBoise, Kansas state director. “These projects are about turning great local ideas into real improvements that make everyday life better, especially for older Kansans.”
A Lasting Impact
With interest in pickleball growing nationwide, these two projects are expected to have a lasting impact on their communities. By adding courts and encouraging participation, the projects will promote better health and social connection.
“AARP Community Challenge projects may be quick to launch, but their impact is long-lasting,” said Nancy A. LeaMond, AARP Executive Vice President and Chief Advocacy & Engagement Officer.
