Pickleball Expansion at Watson Park Trail: Watson Park Trail in Sunset Hills will soon gain three new pickleball courts. On June 10, the Sunset Hills Board of Aldermen approved a $381,994 contract with Vision Civil Construction to begin the project. The courts are part of a larger upgrade plan supported by a $456,947 Municipal Parks Grant.
Details of the Project
The Watson Trail Pickleball Project includes more than just courts. It will also add a retaining wall, change the parking lot layout, repaint pavement lines, and install walkways, fences, and other features around the courts.
Vision Civil Construction submitted the lowest and most responsive bid out of four construction firms. The city chose this company to move the project forward quickly and efficiently.
Current and Future Court Use
Watson Park Trail already has four courts that can be used for both tennis and pickleball. These new courts will be dedicated just to pickleball, giving local players more space to play without sharing with tennis users.
Growing Demand for Pickleball
Pickleball’s popularity has grown quickly. The Sports & Fitness Industry Association reports that participation in the sport rose by 223.5% from 2022 to 2024. This growth explains why many cities, including Sunset Hills, are adding more places to play.
What Comes Next
With funding approved and a construction team selected, work on the courts and the park upgrades will begin soon. The changes are expected to improve the park and give local pickleball fans a better place to play.
