Summer Smash Pickleball Tournament Mint Hill: The Grove Pickleball Community will host its first Summer Smash Pickleball Tournament on Saturday, July 5, 2025, at Park on Wilgrove in Mint Hill, North Carolina. Registration closes on July 3 at 11:55 PM EST, and the entry fee is $30.00, increasing to $35.00 after June 30.
This local event invites players of all skill levels for a day of fun, community, and competition. The tournament will log all match results to the Dynamic Universal Pickleball Rating (DUPR). Organized as a nonprofit effort, The Grove Pickleball Community aims to grow the sport throughout Mint Hill and nearby areas.
Match Format and Rules
The event will follow official USA Pickleball rules. All matches will use traditional scoring, and serves that hit the net but land in play will continue as normal. The Franklin X-40 ball will be used on outdoor courts.
Teams will determine serve or side using the “1 or 2” behind the paddle method. Players must respect opponent line calls. Any dispute may result in the tournament director stepping in as a referee. Cheating or poor sportsmanship can lead to dismissal or bans from future events.
Schedule details:
8:30 AM: Division To Be Decided
10:00 AM: Division To Be Decided
12:00 PM: Division To Be Decided
To register, participants must create a free profile on Pickleball Brackets and link it to their DUPR account. Each team must sign up using the higher-rated partner’s skill level.
Tournament Progression
The event starts with qualifying rounds to 11 points, win by 2. Bracket winners will be decided by wins, then head-to-head results, and point differential. Teams switch sides at the halfway mark. Timeouts are not allowed in qualifiers.
In playoffs, quarterfinals and semifinals go to 15 points. Teams switch sides at 8 points with one 30-second timeout allowed. Finals are best of three to 11, win by 2, with one timeout allowed per team in each game.
Each team is guaranteed at least five games if their division has 12 or more entries.
Additional Considerations
Participants are encouraged to wear matching colors. They should bring lawn chairs due to limited seating. Scores must be reported after each match. Spectators cannot make line calls, and players must not ask them to.
The event allows for rule or format changes if needed. Events with fewer than four teams may be merged by age or skill level. Players will be notified by email if changes occur.
Waitlisted players must secure a partner within five days to stay in the main draw. Teams with both players registered are prioritized. It is each player’s responsibility to complete registration.
Players who withdraw before registration closes will receive full refunds, minus processing fees.
