Pinetree Pickleball Flexible Scheduling: The Pinetree Pickleball Leagues, created by brothers Michael Dunning and Matthew Dunning of Orrington, will begin their season on July 7. The leagues feature flexible scheduling, letting players pick when and where to play matches. This helps people with busy schedules join in the growing sport.
Flexible Matches for Busy Players
Michael Dunning brought this idea to Maine after living in Atlanta, Georgia. He wanted a way for people to enjoy league play without fixed times.
“You set up a time of day with your opponent that works best for both of you. It’s great for people with busy schedules, as opposed to some leagues that just pick a specific day and place. For this, you pick your home court. Wherever works best for you to play, that’s where half your matches will be played,” (Michael Dunning).
Season Details and Registration
The season will run until early September, ending with a championship week. Each player must pay a $40 fee to join.
Registration is open online until Monday night at 11:59 p.m. Players can sign up through a link posted on the Pinetree Pickleball Leagues Facebook page.
Growing Interest in Pickleball
The league shows how pickleball is becoming more popular in Maine. By letting players choose their match times and locations, more people can fit the sport into their lives. This flexible format may inspire other communities to try the same approach.
