The City of Scottsbluff has opened six new pickleball courts at Westmoor Park to meet the sport’s rising popularity. The courts are open daily from 6:00 AM to 11:00 PM and are free for the public to use. Plans for leagues and events are already underway.
A Major Investment in Recreation
The project was funded with American Rescue Plan Act money. Along with the courts, Westmoor Park now has a new shelter area, better lighting, accessible paths, and extra parking.
“This project represents our continued commitment to enhancing quality of life for our residents,”. “Pickleball has exploded in popularity, and we’re excited to provide a space where people can stay active, connect with others, and enjoy our beautiful park system.”(City Manager Kevin Spencer)
Courts for Everyone
The courts are built to welcome players of all ages and skill levels. Community members will soon be invited to a grand opening event with games and activities.
“Our goal is to create inclusive, engaging outdoor spaces that meet the evolving needs of our community,”. “These new courts offer a dynamic space for both casual players and organized leagues, and we’re already seeing tremendous interest.”(Parks and Recreation Director Matt Carpenter)
Growing Popularity of Pickleball
Pickleball combines tennis, badminton, and ping-pong. It is one of the fastest-growing sports in America. People in Scottsbluff can play on the new courts any time they are open, on a first-come, first-served basis.
City officials are planning tournaments, leagues, and lessons to help more people learn the game and stay active.
