Omaha Parks Get Playful Makeover: Pickleball Courts and New Playgrounds Transform Family Fun

Omaha Parks Pickleball Court Upgrades: Several parks in Omaha are getting big upgrades to make them better for families and visitors. These changes include building new playgrounds and turning old tennis courts into pickleball courts. The work is part of a plan to create more fun and active spaces across the city.

Updates at Churchich Park

At Churchich Park, the city is replacing the old playground with a brand-new one. The tennis courts have already been changed into pickleball courts, which many residents are enjoying.

Jody Mendick shared memories of using the park when she was younger.

“When they built the park, we were excited because any really, thing in it. We lived on 29th and Vinson, so we would just get on our bikes,” (Jody Mendick).

Families Enjoy Pickleball Together

Pickleball is quickly becoming a favorite sport for people in Omaha. Mary Lincoln explained why she likes the new courts.

“With a playground, that automatically brings families, and pickleball is a family thing too, like we’ll get together, our nieces and nephews and…it’s just fun to get together and play with family,” (Mary Lincoln).

Plans for Bennington

In Bennington, a field next to Pine Creek Elementary School will soon be turned into more pickleball courts and other recreation areas. These changes are meant to give people more ways to stay active and spend time outdoors.

Impact on the Community

The upgrades will help bring people together and create spaces where everyone feels welcome. As more parks are updated, families and friends will have more choices for exercise and fun activities. The improvements also show how much Omaha values healthy living and strong communities.
