Arp ISD Pickleball Court Project: Arp Independent School District in Texas is opening its sports areas to the public so people can play pickleball and disc golf. These spaces will help more people stay active and bring visitors to the town. The pickleball court is ready now, and the disc golf course will open soon.
Students Spark a Community Project
The idea started when students in the national honor society raised money during their yearly blood drive. Shannon Arrington, the Arp Independent School District Superintendent, shared that their efforts made a big impact.
“We host a blood donation drive every year, and they raised enough, impacted, like nearly 400 lives,” said Shannon Arrington.
With help from local sponsors, the students collected $1,200. They decided to use the money to build spaces everyone can enjoy.
“It enhances community space,” said Shannon Arrington. “We’re taking advantage of using our facilities when students are not here, so they can come and play and enjoy it.”
Pickleball and Disc Golf Grow Fast
Pickleball has become one of the fastest-growing sports. The Sports and Fitness Industry Association reported it has gained 311% more players in the past three years.
“People of all ages and skill levels can enjoy it,” said Shannon Arrington.
Disc golf is also booming. The Disc Golf Growth Report shared that in 2024, an average of 3.2 courses opened every day. For small towns like Arp, these sports can help bring more visitors.
Open to Everyone
Mike Alzamora, Communications Coordinator for Arp Independent School District, said the new courts will welcome everyone.
“It gives them an opportunity to come out and have fun and enjoy what we have to offer,” said Mike Alzamora.
He added that you don’t have to be a local resident to come play.
“You don’t have to be from Arp or involved in any way with our school district to come and play pickleball here or play disc golf here,” said Mike Alzamora.
People are invited to grab a paddle or disc and experience these new areas. The district hopes the project will help connect the community and bring more people to the area.
