Live Oak High Pickleball Courts Funding: Gov. Jeff Landry has blocked funding that would have helped bring new pickleball and tennis courts to Live Oak High School in Livingston Parish. The $100,000 was included in a spending plan approved by lawmakers earlier this year.
Funding Veto Hits Court Project
The money was planned to build more sports spaces at Live Oak High School. These courts would have given students and the community more chances to be active and play pickleball, a fast-growing sport across Louisiana.
Gov. Jeff Landry did not share a detailed reason in his letter for cutting the court funds. His other veto explanations showed a focus on limiting spending in many areas of the budget.
Future Plans Now Uncertain
The Livingston Parish School System hoped the funds would improve the school’s athletic programs and make the campus a hub for sports.
Since the money was vetoed, leaders will need to find other funding or put the project on hold. No date has been set to revisit the plan.
