Farmersburg Pickleball Court Expansion: Residents in Farmersburg, Indiana, will soon have a new place to play pickleball. Construction is in progress at George Heap Memorial Park to build two pickleball courts.
The project started as only a half-court for basketball. But when the children of longtime Farmersburg resident Jim Lear joined in, plans grew to include more sports options.
A Project That Grew With Support
The city of Farmersburg, the town council, the park board, and the Friends of George Heap Memorial Park all helped fund and organize the work. The kids of Jim Lear donated money, which helped make the courts possible.
Dave Scott, a member of the Friends of George Heap Memorial Park, shared how special this project is.
“Jim Lear was 96 years old when he passed on. He had been strong in the community for basketball through the years. His children donated the money to get the basketball goals started and it became our bless to have that money come in, so it certainly deserved to be named the Jim Lear Memorial Basketball Courts.”(Dave Scott)
Delays and Completion Plans
Though storms and rain have slowed the work, everyone involved expects the pickleball courts to be finished by the end of summer 2025.
The courts will give residents of all ages a chance to try the fast-growing sport in a safe and welcoming space.
